Michel Seuphor (1901-1999) was an artist, at once poet, writer, and art critic.
He adopted in 1918 its name artist, Seuphor, anagram of Orpheus. In Paris, where he settled in 1925, he attended Fernand Léger, Piet Mondrian, Picasso and Brancusi. Friend of Jean Arp and Sophie Taeuber, it will play an important role in the defence of abstract art by creating the “Circle and square” journal.
During the 2nd World War, it will be resistant, and become french in 1954.
Among his fellow artists, we’ll count Jean Gorin and Marcelle Cahn. It will support Aurélie Nemours to debut that will expose his works for the first time in 1953 at Colette Allendy.
